What Personal Data We Collect and Why

We keep data collection to the absolute minimum needed to run a fast, useful, personality-packed review site.

Comments

When you leave a comment we collect the data shown in the comment form, your IP address, and browser user agent string to help fight spam. An anonymised string created from your email address (a “hash”) may be sent to Gravatar to check if you’re using it. Gravatar’s privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public next to your comment.

Media

If you upload images (e.g. in comments or a guest post), avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download images from the site and extract any location data they contain.

Cookies

We use cookies so the site works properly and to make your life easier. Examples:

  • Remembering if you’ve already closed a pop-up
  • Saving your name/email for future comments (if you opt in)
  • Login/session cookies if you ever create an account
  • Analytics cookies so we know which reviews people actually read

We do not use cookies to retarget you with creepy ads across the internet.

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings at any time — the site will still work (it just might feel a bit less magical).

Embedded Content from Other Websites

Articles may include embedded YouTube videos, tweets, Instagram posts, etc. These act exactly as if you visited those sites directly — they may set their own cookies and track you. We have no control over them.

Article Magazine is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program and several other affiliate programs. When you click an affiliate link and buy something (usually within 24 hours), we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.

How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely (so we can recognise and auto-approve follow-up comments).
  • If you ever register an account, your profile info is kept until you delete it.
  • Analytics data is anonymised or deleted after 26 months max.

Your Rights Over Your Data

You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, or ask us to delete it completely (except where we’re legally required to keep it). Just email us at the address below.

Where Your Data Is Sent

Comments may be checked through Akismet’s automated spam detection service. Newsletter subscribers (if we ever launch one) will be managed through a GDPR-compliant provider such as MailerLite or ConvertKit.
